Energy Management
Scott Woolley, CTS, RCDD, in his case study on the ANSI/AVIXA 4:2012 Audiovisual Systems Energy Management standard, went through the process that he had used to calculate how much savings an energy management system would accrue over the course of a year. In this particular case study, he found that one room would save U.S. $200 per year and that in this particular facility, there were 150 such rooms, which equates to U.S. $30,000 in savings per year.

Systems Performance
Dan Doolen, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was a task group member for the ANSI/AVIXA10:2013 Audiovisual Systems Performance Verification standard and shared how he ensures that the AV implementation at the university is what was promised over the course of a project.

Building Information Modeling
John Meehan, Projector Engineering at Panasonic Corporation of North America presented a case study on BIM families. He went through the development process since 2012 and the initial questions and problems that needed to be addressed, as well as the challenges that are ongoing, including complexity and functionality of models.
He remarked that in today’s modeling environment, six to 12 months can be shaved off the execution cycle because design-data detail is submitted during — not after — concept development.

Systems Performance
Tom Knauss, CTS-D, Principal at KMK Technologies, LLC Marshall-KMK Acoustics, Ltd., presented a case study on his experience using the ANSI/AVIXA 10:2013 Audiovisual Systems Performance Verification standard. He said that implementation of this standard would elevate the quality of the projects that are being delivered in AV, among all interest groups, including construction managers.
