Podcast: Designing with 3D Printing

There has been a lot of interest in 3D printing from the design and prototyping side of AV. In terms of changing interactive elements of experience design, how will 3D printing change the way projects are built and realized? TIDE Generator host and AVIXA Content Producer Kirsten Nelson chats with three experts who bring different perspectives to these questions: Christina Perla, Co-Founder and CEO, Makelab; Victoria Bill, Director, MakerSpace LAB at New York University Tandon School of Engineering; and James Patten, Director and Principal, Patten Studio.

Looking at all the angles from education, production and experience design, the guests explore new possibilities in materials and interdisciplinary design collaborations through what’s new in 3D printing, how it’s changing design and production, and what's ahead in terms of new and cool uses for interactive experiences.

From a business standpoint, the experts also discussed some new ways that 3D printing can be monetized. Further, what are the uses of 3D printing beyond rapid prototyping? How might 3D printing solving hardware problems — creating custom camera jigs, lighting gobos, or decorative elements that can be used in conjunction with projection mapping to create completely unique backdrops and interactive environments?

And looking at the larger picture of creating more inclusive workplaces, how can our audience members partner with organizations like Women in 3D Printing?
