A digital signage deployment can be technically perfect and still fall short of expectations. The screens are installed. The players are online. The CMS is configured. Content is displaying exactly as planned. The project is marked complete.
But what happens next?
For the client, that is when the real experience begins. In digital signage, we spend a tremendous amount of time talking about the technology, the installation, the content, and the deployment. But the moment the system goes live should not be viewed as the end of the project. It should be the beginning of the client relationship. That is where Client Success plays a critical role.
The Handoff Is Where the Relationship Changes
The transition from deployment to ongoing management is one of the most important moments in a digital signage relationship. During a project, clients typically have a clear point of contact. They know who is managing the project, who is handling installation, and who is responsible for getting the system live. Once the project is complete, those roles can disappear almost overnight.
Without a thoughtful transition, the client can be left wondering:
Who do I contact now?
What happens when something stops working?
Who is responsible for helping us manage the system?
Are we using the platform the way we should?
How do we know whether the investment is actually delivering value?
A strong Client Success process answers those questions before the client has to ask them.
Client Success Is More Than Customer Service
Customer service is often reactive. A client has a problem, they contact someone, and the company responds. Client Success should be different. The goal is to understand what the client is trying to accomplish and proactively help them get there.
In digital signage, that might mean making sure a client knows how to use their CMS, identifying training gaps, reviewing content strategies, monitoring system performance, helping coordinate support, or simply checking in to make sure the solution is meeting expectations.
The technology may be the product the client purchased, but the outcome is what they actually value.
A restaurant may want to improve the guest experience.
A healthcare organization may want to communicate more effectively with patients.
A retailer may want to increase engagement at the point of purchase.
A corporate environment may want to create a more consistent internal communications experience.
The Client Success role is to keep that original objective connected to the technology long after the installation crew has left. Day 2 and beyond.
The First 90 Days Matter
The period immediately following deployment can have an outsized impact on the long-term relationship. This is when clients are learning how to operate their new system, establishing content processes, discovering questions they did not think to ask during implementation, handing off to a user if different from the approver, and determining whether the solution fits naturally into their day-to-day operations.
A strong post-deployment process should include intentional touchpoints.
That might look like:
30 days: Confirm adoption, answer questions, identify training needs, and make sure the system is being used as intended.
60 days: Review usage, content workflows, support activity, and any recurring challenges.
90 days: Step back and evaluate the bigger picture. Is the client achieving the goals that drove the project in the first place?
These conversations are not simply check-ins. They are opportunities to make sure the investment is producing the expected value. ROI can make the difference between a one-time transaction and building a relationship with a repeat customer.
Client Success Creates the Feedback Loop
One of the most valuable things Client Success can provide is information. The people working with clients after deployment often see patterns that other departments cannot.
Maybe several locations are struggling with the same content workflow.
Maybe a client purchased functionality they are not using.
Maybe a particular hardware configuration is generating recurring support issues.
Maybe the client's business has changed since the original deployment.
Maybe the client is asking questions that point to a larger opportunity.
Client Success becomes the feedback loop between the client and the rest of the organization. That information can influence product decisions, support processes, training, sales conversations, and future deployments. In other words, Client Success is not simply supporting the customer after the project. It is helping the entire organization become better at serving customers.
The Goal Is to Become a Partner, Not a Vendor
The most successful digital signage relationships evolve over time. The initial project may have been about installing screens, but the long-term relationship should be about helping the client use those screens effectively. That requires curiosity and attention.
What has changed since we deployed?
What is working well?
What is frustrating?
What are you trying to accomplish now that you weren't trying to accomplish a year ago?
What could we be doing differently?
Has the contact or user changed?
Those questions shift the conversation away from transactions and toward partnership. And that distinction matters. When clients view an integrator as simply the company that installed their screens, the relationship can become transactional. When they view that company as a partner who understands their business and proactively helps them get more value from their technology, the relationship becomes much more meaningful.
Success Should Continue After the Screens Turn On
A successful deployment is not measured solely by whether the screens turned on. It should be measured by what happens after they turn on.
Are people using the system?
Is the content accomplishing its purpose?
Is the client confident managing the solution?
Are issues being identified before they become major problems?
Is the technology continuing to support the client's evolving needs?
Those are the questions that Client Success is uniquely positioned to help answer. The installation may have a completion date. Client success should not.
The best digital signage providers understand that their responsibility does not end when the project is closed. The deployment is simply the point where the technology begins delivering its value. Client Success is what helps ensure that value continues.
