CTS 2: Applied AV and AV Project Process (Previously CTS Prep): In-Person Training at InfoComm 2026

CTS 2 can help ease your nerves and boost your confidence before you take the CTS® exam. This course is a natural continuation of CTS 1; through this course, you will deepen your understanding of the core competencies tested in the CTS exam. This will continue and expand the knowledge base learned in CTS 1 by adding new focus areas and applying learned skills and deepening understanding of key concepts.

Who should take this course:

Professionals who:

• Plan to take the CTS® Exam in the near future
• Work as AV technicians or in an adjacent position 
• Coordinate and collaborate with AV professionals and wish to deepen their knowledge of AV systems, technology, and the industry itself 
• Wish to deepen and expand their understanding of concepts learned in CTS 1 

Prerequisites:

Professionals who are looking to earn their CTS and:

-Have audiovisual experience

Or have taken the following prerequisite:

-CTS 1: AV Technology (Previously Essentials of AV Technology)

Course features:

This is a 24-hour course that may be taught virtually or in person. Course objectives include: 

• Understand AVIXA's mission, role, and industry contributions.
• Comprehend AV industry standards and their application in ensuring quality and reliability.
• Explore benefits and resources of AVIXA membership for professional growth and engagement.
• Develop proficiency in mathematical tools such as ratios, logarithmic functions, and scientific calculators.
• Gain insight into technical concepts relevant to AV projects and systems.
• Master skills in customer information gathering, needs analysis, site survey, and program report creation.
• Expertise in interpreting architectural drawings and understanding design phases in AV projects.
• Learn about sound alteration, projection system factors, screen selection, and aspect ratio knowledge.
• Understand project management principles and their application in AV projects.
• Acquire skills in AV system installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance.
• Develop proficiency in troubleshooting techniques and logical problem-solving approaches for AV systems. 

Someone who has taken CTS 1 and 2 might be prepared to sit the exam, but it is strongly recommended people take Quick Prep: Certification Overview and Study Drills.

Jeremy Caldera, CTS-D, CTS-I

Jeremy Caldera is the Chief Executive Officer at IAS Technology. He sits as the current Chair of CTS Certification Steering Committee, is part of the AVIXA Leadership Search Committee (LSC), and moderates the revision of the AVIXA/ANSI Standard for Audiovisual Documentation and Coordination Processes. Along with being a member of the AVIXA senior faculty, Caldera helped develop the Audiovisual System Design curriculum at Columbia College Chicago. He was awarded the 2016 AVIXA Educator of the Year Award, 2015 AVIXA Young AV Professional Award, named a 2015 Top 40 Influencer Under 40 by Commercial Integrator magazine, and Top 40 Peoria Business Leader Under 40 in 2017.
