Get the knowledge base you need to build a new AV system. If you want to learn how to properly install AV systems with hands-on, workshop style instruction, this course is for you. Uncover best practices for optimal cable termination, rack building, mounting, and more.
WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE
Anyone who works on the AV system before its initial power-up, including:
- Installation technicians
- System integrators
- Others professionals who handle or oversee system integration
Students are strongly encouraged to complete AV Math Online, Introduction to Installation Online, and Elements of System Fabrication Online before taking this course.
This three-day course is eight hours per day. Additional evening work may be required. This course focuses on teaching step-by-step methods and best practices for essential installation skills.
By the end of this course you will:
- Learn to perform a site survey
- Create common terminations using industry best practices
- Test and pull cables
- Build an equipment rack according to a given design
- Wire a rack using proper bend radius and signal separation
- Correctly manage heat load and weight distribution within a rack
- Mount equipment
- Explore working with fiber optic, CAT 6A, SDI and HDMI connections

As a Senior Staff Instructor at AVIXA, Chuck has over 26 years’ experience in the AV industry with 13 years in the United States Marine Corps. In the U.S. Marine Corps, Chuck was the Chief Sound System Engineer for the United States Marine Corps’ Musical field units. Since retiring from the Marines, he has held a variety of AV positions supporting commercial and federal government clients as well as contributing to the development of hundreds of audio-visual professionals. Chuck has served on the Scheme and Item Writers committee, as an AVIXA’s Leadership Search Committee Member and Chair of AVIXA’s Certification Steering Committee, as well as a contributor the InfoComm Installation Handbook.
