Why I Joined an AVIXA Council—and Why You Should Too
When I was working as an AV Technician at a local hospital, I didn’t know where to begin when it came to networking or getting involved in the AV industry. I was eager to learn more about InfoComm, about the trends shaping our field but I had no clue where to start.
It wasn’t until I stepped into a new role as an AV Technologist in Higher Education that I started connecting with peers who introduced me to AVIXA.
I was always looking to meet more like-minded people, so I joined the Young AV Professionals Council (now known as the Rising Professionals Council).
What started out as a small step in just networking with other people, grew to something much more!

You’re not alone in this industry – every year I’m reminded of this when I step foot on the show floor at tradeshows like InfoComm. AVIXA councils create space for open conversation, shared experiences, and meaningful collaboration—no matter what stage you’re at in your AV journey. Most councils meet once a month, and those one-hour meetings often lead to lasting connections.
