Revit Families for AV

This course explains the step-by-step process of creating a new family of an AV product for use in your design projects. We’ll start with a simple rack panel, using extrusions to model the panel, then move on to the techniques for creating more complex models of devices such as loudspeakers.

Course Description

This is a 19-part series of videos totaling over 6 hours of online instruction explaining the step-by-step process of creating a new family of an AV product for use in your design projects. 

We’ll start with a simple rack panel, using extrusions to model the panel, then move on to the techniques for creating more complex models of devices such as loudspeakers.  

We’ll add dynamic elements such as stretch, arrays, rotations, and more to create feature rich families that speed up project design, then dive into Detail Families for creating 2D drawings such as block diagrams. 

We’ll create assembly families that host multiple nested families of products, parts, etc. with flexible selection options for any given application in a project. 

Finally, we’ll dive into Detail Families that can be speed up the creation of 2D drawings such as block diagrams. 

Those who score 80% or higher on the final exam will receive a successful completion certificate which you can use to get (10) CTS Renewal Units and 2.75 Cedia CEUs. 

Prerequisites: The “Revit for AV” training course is recommended, but not required. While we do explain how to use various tools in Revit, it is not intended to be fundamental “Revit” training. Some experience using Revit to design systems in a project is required.

  • Creating a model of a device from scratch using extrusion and void extrusion tools in the Family editor. 

  • Adding information parameters for use in project Schedules 

  • Adding dynamic elements such as stretch, array, and rotation parameters for manipulating the device in a project and using reference planes and reference lines.

  • Techniques for modeling complex shapes such as loudspeakers and mounts. 

  • Creating assembly families by nesting multiple families of parts with selectable options for any given instance in a project. 

  • Creating Detail families for creating block diagrams.
