Why Take This Course
Like the utility company, sound system designers sometimes need to drive lots of loads from a single source, and drive them over very long distances. Both of these obstacles can be overcome with a transformer-distributed loudspeaker system.
The amplifier-to-loudspeaker interface has two major technical limits. These are (1) the number of loudspeakers that can be connected, and (2) the length of the cable used to connect them. Both limitations can be addressed by using transformers.
You will learn how transformers are used for audio power distribution. By framing it that way, concepts such as impedance, voltage and current transformation, and line loss become obvious and intuitive. The course includes an app to execute the required math.
The Course will answer questions like:
Amplifier Sizing: How many loudspeakers can I safely connect to a single amplifier channel, and what size amp do I need?
Power Taps: What are power taps, and how do they determine individual speaker output levels?
Cable Selection: What wire gauge is necessary for long distance runs with acceptable line loss?
Acoustic Coverage: How many loudspeakers are required to achieve even sound coverage in a room?

Practical Scenarios
