AV for IT Pros

In today’s interconnected digital environment, the fusion of IT and AV technologies is an evolving reality. This five-hour e-Learning course is meticulously designed for IT professionals looking to understand the convergence of IT and AV, preparing them to successfully manage and optimize AV systems within their network infrastructure.

Course Description

Learn to put AV systems on your network without guessing at bandwidth, addressing, or QoS, and to hold a productive design conversation with the AV team.

Who it’s for. Network administrators, systems engineers, and IT managers who are being handed responsibility for networked AV and have no AV background.

Learning outcomes.

  • Verify that switch and distribution architecture, including multicast querier uplinks, meets AV bandwidth requirements

  • Build a traffic management strategy using traffic classes, DSCP marking, bandwidth reservations, and congestion management

  • Define a VLAN and subnet strategy that segments AV traffic and routes correctly between AV and other VLANs

  • Choose between static addressing, DHCP, and DHCP with reservations for AV devices, and justify the choice

  • Read manufacturer and encoder/decoder spec sheets to extract bitrate, CODEC, latency, and PoE requirements

  • Use a ports and protocols document to plan firewall rules, QoS policy, and network segmentation

  • Compare converged, dedicated, SDN, cloud, and hybrid topologies and present the tradeoffs to stakeholders
