The practice of designing, installing, and using hardware-based signal switching and distribution systems is slowly and inevitably giving way to software-based switching (SBS) and distribution. Now, our AV distribution system becomes easily scalable, and we can use conventional network switches to route our signals. (And we don’t have to fret about the latest flavor of display interfaces and whether they’re fast enough to do the job!)

This class will provide attendees with a solid base of knowledge about AV/IP, including MPEG and JPEG-based compression standards and latency, GOPs, transport and streaming protocols, bandwidth requirements, and a host of useful acronym definitions they will encounter as they take the first steps into this next-generation signal transport format.
