The AVIXA Diversity Council thanks and celebrates our Diversity Allies who support our goals. Meet Richard Hoar!

Rick found his 1st voice through video technology and worked in electronic news gathering for CBS straight out of high school. At AVI-SPL, as a hospitality AV Technician, he obtained his Bachelor's in Broadcast Journalism, and in time, directed and toured to support special events in venues from San Diego to Boston.

Rick went on to be a subject-matter expert for the largest healthcare corporation in his hometown of Dallas and later relocated to NYC where today he is the Executive Director of Media & Event Technology Services for the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Also volunteering with the Information Technology Disaster Resource Center (ITDRC), he enjoys and values working with diverse AV & IT professionals and designs principles that empower because he believes diversity makes us stronger and whole.

Rick, you have been instrumental in developing the Diversity Council's mission, enabling our communications and outreach, and fostering collaborations with his organization and others to help us showcase our work and plans.

Charmaine Torruella is the Global Services Manager at Verrex, and Chairperson for the AVIXA Diversity Council. Charmaine’s 18-year career in both IT and AV, along with her Jamaican and Cuban heritage and achievements as a single working mother, put her in the unique position to galvanize and champion the AVIXA’s diversity initiatives.
